Programmes
MA (Hindi)
Extended over four semesters, this programme provides instruction and guidance for acquiring knowledge in various new fields of Hindi language and literature without entirely neglecting the old and medieval texts and offers wide scope for elective studies. The emphasis is also given to the functional aspects of the language. This programme has two streams: A. Literature Stream and B. Functional Hindi and Translation stream. The students of both the streams study common papers up to 3rd Semester. In the last 4th semester, both streams are separated; Functional Hindi and Translation stream students are offered four separate courses. This specialization is reflected in their degree.
Eligibility for the Admission
- A Bachelor’s degree with 40% marks in any subject with Hindi as one of the optional subjects/compulsory subjects/or second language.
- A Bachelor’s degree with 40% marks in any subject with a Post Graduate Diploma in Hindi or Translation studies in Hindi (PGDTS)/Functional Hindi.
- A Bachelor’s degree with 40% marks in any subject with an oriental title examination of B.A. standard, approved by the Government of India or any State Government, like ‘Praveen’ and ‘Sahitya Ratna’ or any other title recognized thereof.
Process of admission and pattern of the Entrance examination
The University issues advertisement for the admission in the month of April every year and entrance examinations are conducted at various centres all over the India. The pattern of examination is MCQ – Objective Type.
Intake: 42
Integrated MA(Hindi)
This programme is extended over 10 semesters. The students for the 6 semesters study at the College of Integrated Study, University of Hyderabad. From the 7th semester, they join the Department of Hindi and study with the mainstream students.
Eligibility for the Admission
With a minimum of 60% marks at +2 level of education with Hindi as one of the subjects. (Note: The students who are applying for Hindi should have studied respective subjects at +2 level.) In case a student has not studied Hindi as one of the subjects, he/she should have passed an oriental title examination equivalent to Intermediate (i.e. + 2 level) in Hindi by Government of India or any State Government thereof along with + 2 levels.

Intake: 10
M.phil (Hindi)
This is a three-semester programme. In the first semester students complete the Coursework as prescribed by the UGC and in rest of the semesters they write a Dissertation on a research Topic approved by the Department. Each student is allotted a Research Supervisor to supervise the research.
Eligibility for the Admission
Master’s degree in Hindi with at least 55% marks.
Process of admission and pattern of the Entrance examination
The University issues advertisements for the admission in the Month of April every year and entrance examinations are conducted at various centres all over the India . The pattern of examination is Objective Type/UGC-NET/JRF pattern. Shortlisted candidates are called for an Interview.
Intake: As per the available vacancy with the Faculty members of the Department.
Ph. D (Hindi)
This is a Research programme with the Coursework of 16 credits in the first year. All the research Scholars are required to submit a thesis within 5 years from the date of admission. Each student is allotted a Research Supervisor to supervise the Research Work.

Master’s degree in Hindi with at least 55% marks.
Process of admission and pattern of the Entrance examination
The University issues advertisement for the admission in the month of April and November every year and entrance examinations are conducted in the month of May and December. The pattern of the examination is Objective Type/UGC-NET/JRF pattern. Shortlisted candidates are called for Interview in the month of July and January.
